  • You are loosing your credibility

Sometimes I wonder where have you turned wrong with your editors policy. Calling russian emigrants for talks, highlighting old and widely criticised books (you promised new books, remember?) instead of giving voices to actual Ukrainians, uplifting the studies of Ukrainian history from decolonisation perspective. It’s a shame, really

  • Good

Super nice show and channel, i was on rumble platform but that thing evolved into an anti west propaganda tool so quick that barely no one noticed, i think there’s a lot of Chinese and Russian plus Marxists from third countries engaging in destroying real geopolitical discussion, i was bullied to the point of mental distress, better to play it safe in podcast, your assessment is right ruskis and shyna have engaged in unrestricted warfare against the west for generations in all fronts and we are ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Elliot Dolan-Evans, "Making War Safe for Capitalism: The World Bank, IMF, and the Conflict in Ukraine" (Bristol UP, 2025)
Q: Could you start us off by introducing yourself a little bit and tell us why you decided to write this book?
I'm a casual academic from Melbourne, focused on law and political economy; my fieldwork in Ukraine, especially with women's participation in peace processes, led me to examine how IMF/World Bank reforms intersect with war, prompting a broader inquiry into their post‑conflict and active‑conflict interventions.
The Remarkable Life and Afterlife of Sholem Aleichem
Q: How did Aleichem's multilingualism influence his work and its reception across cultures?
Dauber notes that Aleichem wrote in Russian, Hebrew, and Yiddish, choosing languages based on audience and purpose, while insisting on the vitality of Yiddish and its potential for serious literature, which affected translations and the way readers encountered his stories abroad.
The Remarkable Life and Afterlife of Sholem Aleichem
Q: Jeremy, could you talk a little about Sholem Aleichem's literary ambition and how it balanced popularity with high literary aims?
Dauber explains that Aleichem sought to be a great writer in the tradition of Gogol and Chekhov, while also popularizing Yiddish and making it a vessel for universal human concerns, often balancing different identities and linguistic choices to reach broad audiences.
Joshua D. Zimmerman, "Jozef Pilsudski: Founding Father of Modern Poland" (Harvard UP, 2022)
Q: So given that obviously this is a major work in English, I'm curious, what made you decide to take it on?
Zimmerman explains that he wanted to restore Piłsudski's memory in the English-speaking world and argue for why he is a central figure, drawing on a long career, complex ideology, and the need to connect his legacy to modern European security concerns.
Alex Averbuch, "Furious Harvests" (Harvard UP, 2026)
Q: You've lived a lot of places in your life since you left Ukraine. How do you maintain a relationship to Ukraine amid all of those travels and changes in residence?
The guest explains that ongoing visits to Ukraine, maintaining an apartment in Novidar, and keeping a physical and emotional connection through objects and memories are central to sustaining ties to the homeland even while dispersed.
