  • Great podcast!

Jim is so right- every time I listen to an episode, I remember something old and learn something new. Jim Bois and his partner have a terrific, natural rapport and a deep knowledge of music. Every episode inspires me to fire up an old beloved album or listen to something I’ve never heard before. Keep these episodes coming. The world needs to be reminded of how essential our connection to music is.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Behind the Strings of R.E.M.'s Out of Time: Violinist David Arenz E136
Q: How did you become a violinist and what sparked your interest in the instrument?
I started on piano at five, then my mother encouraged switching to violin at nine because orchestras have many violinists and it seemed like a viable path; I fell into a love of classical training, which then opened doors to pop sessions.
Dreams So Real: Trent Allen Reminisces about the Band, the Scene and the Dream E126
Q: Trent, tell us a little about who influenced you when you were younger. Who did you listen to?
He describes growing up with an older brother who introduced him to the Beatles, XTC, the Police, Grand Funk Railroad, and the broader British and U.S. rock movements, which grounded his musical tastes and later fed his approach to Dreams So Real.
Kevn Kinney And Johnny Hickman Talk Music and More in the Classic City E123
Q: How did the collaboration between Drivin N Cryin and Cracker begin, and what drew you to tour together early on?
Both Kevn and Johnny describe shared roots in California and Redlands, plus a natural kinship in songwriting and performance that led to mutual support and later collaborations, including touring together and sharing stages in Athens.
