  • Physical inactivity and chronic disease

Amy Bantham’s podcasts have at least one thing in common: they invariably touch on what makes us human. So many of the ideas presented touch on simple ways we can fill our days with life and fitness. These are not concepts available only to a select few- they are available to all- right there- usually just outside the door.

I look forward to hearing more knowing that by working together, change for the better must be near.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Overcoming All-Or-Nothing Thinking to Get and Stay Active
Q: So can we talk about what you learned from talking with these unsuccessful intenders?
Segar explains that unsuccessful intenders reveal the gap between intention and action, highlighting how rigid criteria and lack of adaptive strategies lead to dropout unless movement is reframed as flexible, enjoyable, and socially meaningful.
Overcoming All-Or-Nothing Thinking to Get and Stay Active
Q: I would love for you to define it for my listeners. I want to delve into the research study that prompted all this.
Segar defines all-or-nothing thinking in exercise as a dichotomy where people feel they must do a perfect plan or nothing at all; her work distinguishes pre-intentional and post-intentional forms and emphasizes flexible, sustainable movement rather than rigid criteria.
Linking Nutrition and Exercise with Body Weight, Health, Mortality and Performance
Q: What is the bottom line about whether you can outrun a donut?
The discussion emphasizes that regular exercise provides a protective framework for health and longevity beyond what diet alone can achieve, and that many practical demonstrations in the literature show fitness's greater impact on health than weight loss.
Adding Breath to the Exercise as Medicine Movement
Q: Devin, where is the Global Breath Network in five years? What does success look like?
Success means catalyzing a connected community of practitioners, researchers, and payers; moving breath into mainstream healthcare and workplace wellness; and achieving broad uptake so breath becomes a foundational element of wellbeing alongside exercise and nutrition.
Adding Breath to the Exercise as Medicine Movement
Q: Devin, tell us about the Global Breath Network. What is it?
The network exists to resource the power of breath as a habit, address the gap between supply and demand, support facilitators with business credibility, and ensure breathwork is delivered safely and effectively with real-world outcomes.
