  • The Mission Does Matter and It Shows

The real value and beauty of the Mission Matters brand lies in the consistency of each of Adam Torres’ interviews. One gets the sense that there is a really a collective upliftment taking place. The interviews invariably pull out the kernel of truth that drives the person forward and that universal truth or truism tends to be something that can be edifying, if not validating. The topics are immaterial, the brands shines through and that is the gift. Love this podcast!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

From Soil to Snack: Putting Farmers at the Center of Sustainable Change
Q: How did you get into sustainability and this specific role at Mars?
Davies describes entering sustainability nine years ago by taking a proactive, hands-on approach—learning the commodity and farming landscape directly by talking to farmers and understanding the end-to-end supply chain rather than relying on abstract theory.
Why KeraFactor Chose Science Over Hyper-Growth
Q: What route did you and James choose and why?
They chose to pursue a founder-funded, patient-first approach instead of chasing quick growth through external investors, focusing on long-term science and sustainable profitability rather than short-term numbers.
Jay Avigdor on Helping Small Businesses Access Capital and Navigate Adversity
Q: What motivates you to keep going through frequent setbacks, and where does that drive come from?
He explains that the need to succeed, the responsibility to his family, and the lack of an external safety net created an unstoppable drive to prove doubters wrong and keep pushing forward.
Jay Avigdor on Helping Small Businesses Access Capital and Navigate Adversity
Q: When did you first realize there was an opportunity or issue with business owners obtaining capital, and how did that come about?
Jay describes starting Velocity in a spare bedroom, early career uncertainty, and realizing that small businesses lacked timely access to capital, which shaped the firm's mission to help them obtain funds efficiently.
Turning Personal Experience Into a Mission to Fight Fraud
Q: What motivated you to pursue this path given your age?
I was a fraud victim myself, and my grandmother's past experience with fraud and imprisonment showed me firsthand how devastating it can be, driving me to create a firm that prevents others from suffering similar losses.
