  • That Time I Crashed Dr. Leo’s Podcast

I jumped on the Mind Body Marathon podcast with Dr. Leo, my old high school cross country teammate turned running wizard, and it felt like stepping into a time machine powered by protein shakes and dad jokes.

We covered everything from the glory days of running (when shorts were short and dreams were big) to how I now help women over 40 crush their health goals without sacrificing wine, sanity, or their favorite leggings. I even got to shout out Betsy Finley, a 60-year-old world champ who train... more

  • new favorite running podcast:)

I feel like there are a lot of podcasts (about running) that hit just science or just story/ interview- this podcast somehow the perfect blend of both.

I appreciate that each guest and episode has a slightly unique feel to it, but also has a specific point and take away.

  • Dr. Leo is a great resource for runners everywhere

This podcast is a good listen for anyone trying to gain more awareness to the science behind running and the mysticism that drives our best athletic performances. In life there are people who know what they’re talking about and there are people who pretend to know what they’re talking about, Leo is someone who knows how to talk to runners!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Empowering Voices: Allie Ostrander, Elise Cranny, Annie Rodenfels, & Ednah Kurgat Discuss the 6K Championship in Canton
Q: What challenges and opportunities do you see with moving between track and road racing, especially in the context of the 6K?
Athletes noted that road racing feels different tactically and mentally, with a focus on race dynamics and energy rather than strict splits, while track remains more time- and pace-oriented; road racing broadens the competitive landscape and adds a different set of strategic cues.
Empowering Voices: Allie Ostrander, Elise Cranny, Annie Rodenfels, & Ednah Kurgat Discuss the 6K Championship in Canton
Q: Can you explain the WCAP program and how it intersects with distance running and your military commitments?
WCAP provides support to soldier-athletes across Olympic sports, balancing work obligations with training, enabling international and domestic competition, and offering a pathway to represent the country.
Empowering Voices: Allie Ostrander, Elise Cranny, Annie Rodenfels, & Ednah Kurgat Discuss the 6K Championship in Canton
Q: Annie, you won it last year. What brought you back this year?
Annie described her strong connection to the event, its significance for her season planning, and the opportunity to test herself again against top competition as part of a larger purpose in road racing this year.
Navigating the 2026 Boston Marathon: Insights and Reflections
Q: How did the post-race recovery unfold for you?
I ended up in the medical tent with dehydration and low pulse/pressure, then required rest and fluids; the takeaway is to avoid pushing too hard without proper hydration and temperature management and to follow medical advice if symptoms appear.
Navigating the 2026 Boston Marathon: Insights and Reflections
Q: What did you learn about pacing and preparation from this race?
I went out too fast and relied on muscle memory rather than looking at pace data; the lesson is to pace more conservatively early and use a watch to guide splits, even if you feel good early.
