  • Um and uh city

Either lose some of the “uuuuuhhm”’s while talking, or edit them out. Makes it very painful to listen to. While the content seems like it could be great, the never-ending uhm’s and uuh’s really hurt the listening experience

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S5E%: Cracking the Code of Longevity: The Kaufman Protocol for Midlife Athletes
Q: How do you measure progress when long-term longevity is hard to quantify directly?
Direct longevity measurements require huge populations and long time horizons, but we can monitor proxy markers: energy levels, inflammatory biomarkers, cognitive function with brain health supplements, and quality of life. Lab results (inflammation markers, lipid oxidation, HbA1c), energy/fitness metrics, and subjective well-being can guide adjustments inside a comprehensive longevity plan.
S5E%: Cracking the Code of Longevity: The Kaufman Protocol for Midlife Athletes
Q: What are some practical, evidence-based components of a longevity pyramid for someone over 40?
A foundational daily plan should include athletic activity, a solid diet, and a handful of supplements with demonstrated effects (e.g., NAD precursors, astaxanthin, curcumin with good bioavailability, and carnosine). Beyond that, consider niacinamide/NAD boosters, and in some cases, limited use of exosomes or senolytics under professional guidance. The key is personalization, not jumping on every new therapy, and recognizing that baseline health habits yield the largest gains.
S5E%: Cracking the Code of Longevity: The Kaufman Protocol for Midlife Athletes
Q: How should endurance athletes think about sugar and fueling in the context of longevity versus performance?
Athletes should balance immediate fueling needs with long-term health. Complex carbohydrates are preferred for steady energy rather than large, rapid sugar spikes. On days of high effort, strategic carbohydrate intake is important, but chronic high sugar intake can undermine longevity. There are approaches like using sodium-glucose inhibitors selectively and timing carbohydrate intake to match training loads, with emphasis on overall energy balance and hydration.
S5E%: Cracking the Code of Longevity: The Kaufman Protocol for Midlife Athletes
Q: Could you summarize the seven major aging categories and how they fit into practical longevity for athletes?
The seven major categories are DNA integrity (telomeres, epigenetics), mitochondria function, signaling pathways (sirtuins, AMPK, mTOR, circadian rhythms), quality control/proteostasis (heat shock proteins), immune/inflammation aging, cell-specific requirements, and waste management. These categories provide a framework to identify what an individual can influence through lifestyle, nutrition, and targeted interventions to improve healthspan and athletic performance.
S5E2: The Creatine OG
Q: What makes creatine relevant for endurance athletes as they age?
Creatine helps restore cellular energy production, supports higher workload and faster recovery, and can preserve or improve power output in aging athletes, making it valuable for maintaining performance and independence over the long term.
