  • Drokking Excellent

Eamonn Clarke’s Mega City Book Club I has been a stalwart of the British comics podcasting scene for some time now, and remains just as great. The host’s warm and knowledgable demeanour helps get the best from his guests, so that even if your unfamiliar with, or simply not a fan of the comic being discussed, you can’t help but enjoy the chat! Top notch podcast for any fan of the comics medium.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

332: Undercover Brothers
Q: Who is Lenny Zero and how did his creation influence the stories in the book?
The hosts detail Lenny Zero as a fast-talking, street-smart cop turned thief, created by Andy Diggle and Jock, whose arc and collaborations with writers like Diggle, Jock, and Wilshire define the collection's throughline about undercover work and its consequences.
332: Undercover Brothers
Q: What have you chosen this year and why does it fit the 'Undercover' theme?
Giles explains that the collection centers on undercover cops within Mega City One, showing how their oaths blur with moral ambiguity, and how the stories echo the broader Dredd universe while tracing character arcs across multiple runs.
312: Realm of the Damned
Q: Tell us, first of all, why you chose this one for a visit to the book club.
The guest explains that the book stood out in the magazine and later in trade form for its bold, bombastic mix of horror and pulpy energy, its color-forward visuals, and its willingness to play with genre tropes, making it a perfect focus for a book club discussion.
302: When the Wind Blows
Q: So first of all, Jim, why this one for the book club?
Jim explains that the book offers a dense, adult-oriented exploration of nuclear paranoia set against a tightly focused domestic narrative, making it a rich, provocative centerpiece for discussion.
310: Judgment Day
Q: Tell us what this story is about.
It starts as a three-issue miniseries about a murder within the superhero community, evolves into a courtroom drama that uses witnesses and flashbacks to explore a powerful magical artifact, and ultimately situates Moore's expanding universe within a larger cross-genre history that also touches on the origins and fallout of the Image/Grim-and-Gritty era.
