  • Help

I sell to a big agency who always asks for detailed proposals. That usually only include three slides per medium in the client recommendation. I have two questions: How can I make it easy for them to summarise my proposal? 2 can I hack the system somehow?

  • Demystifying media sales

Love this podcast. Fantastic way of learning by osmosis from top media sales experts. Recommend it to anyone already in the field but afraid to ask what they think might be stupid questions as well as those starting out and even people on the content side to gain a better understanding of what goes into making sure everyone gets paid

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Working with Content & Editorial
Q: What is the underlying philosophy of serving an audience in a content business with advertising funding?
The core philosophy is audience-first; everything should start with what the audience cares about, and only then consider monetization and editorial priorities.
Working with Content & Editorial
Q: Can you give us a high-level overview of your career and what you're currently doing at Podshape?
Jay explains a long career in content and media, highlighting Podshape as a storytelling business that works with brands, creators, and also produces its own shows, with a strong emphasis on audience-first storytelling and measurable reach.
Selling in a New Market
Q: What did your first 90 days look like when you relocated to Oman?
Omar describes spending the initial period observing, learning local culture, understanding internal strengths, and identifying opportunities, rather than forcing quick wins; the focus was on building trust and aligning with local practices before scaling initiatives.
Local Media Matters
Q: Do you have any advice on how to make AM Talkback radio sexy to a 30-year-old media buyer?
You can't make AM Talkback sexy to a demographic that isn't the market; instead, demonstrate that the buyer's customers aren't the same as the general public and show how AM formats reach the right audience when positioned as trust-based, context-relevant platforms. Use real-world examples to illustrate how older listeners behave differently from the youth and focus on outcomes for the buyer rather than on the format itself.
The Direct Path to Sales Director
Q: Have you ever seen that stepping up is more about capability or perception and positioning, and what would you tell someone listening who wants this role?
Senior leadership requires demonstrating sustained high performance, credibility, and the ability to coach others, not just personal success; progression hinges on building a track record, communicating career ambitions clearly, and seeking a succession plan with leadership.
