  • More than a diversion

When I first started listening to MSH I recommended it to my students, not so much for them, but to introduce their children, nieces, or nephews to math and science.

After the 2024 election, I needed a diversion from all the turmoil. I started to relisten to MSH.

Gabrielle‘s invention, thoroughness, and humor shown through. This is more than a diversion. Don’t miss.

  • Excellent Podcast

This podcast overall is excellent, you can tell Gabrielle puts a lot of time, effort and knowledge into every episode !! I particularly enjoyed the episode on Catherine Macaulay and found it super helpful and informative. I found one of the bets parts to be its ending, with Gabrielle stating how important female contributions really are :)

Haunted Machines: The Engineer Proximity Effect and Pauli's Curse
Q: What's your best advice for non-engineers when something breaks down?
The two things I would recommend are to retrace your steps slowly and carefully, and if that doesn't work, reboot the equipment, then give us a call.
Haunted Machines: The Engineer Proximity Effect and Pauli's Curse
Q: Can you give us an example of one of your EPE moments?
Typically, it involves a user being impatient and when they are asked to demonstrate the problem, they go through the process in a meticulous manner. When asked to demonstrate, nothing goes wrong, leading to the belief it's because of the engineer's presence.
Interview with Gillen D'Arcy Wood - The Wake of HMS Challenger
Q: What are some of the significant threats to our oceans today?
The major threats are overfishing, ocean warming, and plastic pollution, all of which stress the marine ecosystem significantly.
Interview with Gillen D'Arcy Wood - The Wake of HMS Challenger
Q: What do you mean by a biocentric narrative?
I wanted to shift the focus of the story from just the scientists to the marine life itself, making marine creatures the stars of the show.
Interview with Gillen D'Arcy Wood - The Wake of HMS Challenger
Q: What would you say are the great achievements of the Challenger expedition?
The Challenger brought back 5,000 new marine creatures, recorded temperature data across the globe, measured deep-sea currents, and mapped the seafloor, which paved the way for modern ocean sciences.
