  • Opened My Eyes

This podcast has opened my eyes and opened my heart. The life cycle of a woman from her own birth, through the birth of her children, through her body in its later years, is so honestly addressed. Compassion, empathy, and wisdom for women, as well as men. Finally, someone is talking about what we used to discuss in a circle of women living their lifetimes together.

  • Compassionate and Evidence-Based

I would recommend this show to birth workers, nurses, OBs, parents, and anyone interested in a humanistic perspective on pregnancy and birth. Atoosa’s unique perspective balances respect for evidence with respect for the innate ability of bodies that birth.

What I'm Made Of - I Never Doubted with Jordy and Mali
Q: What was the experience of Jordy's birth like, and how did you navigate medical decisions as a first-time mother with a midwife/doula in the room?
The birth was long and intense, with unmedicated labor progressing slowly, the decision to use an epidural for rest, and eventual vaginal delivery despite shoulder dystocia, managed through a skilled team with the doula-midwife collaboration and careful emotional support.
What I'm Made Of - I Never Doubted with Jordy and Mali
Q: Tell me about your birth order of children.
Mali explains a history of loss and complicated pregnancies, including a prior miscarriage, a twin pregnancy with one twin losing a heartbeat, and subsequent births, which shaped her cautious approach to pregnancy and her emphasis on processing trauma and seeking support.
We Heal with Time - I Would Have Another Community Birth Despite My Trauma
Q: How did the transfer to hospital affect your experience and what did you learn from it?
The transfer was handled with calm communication; 911 was called, and despite the challenges, Amber emphasizes the importance of timely escalation when fetal distress appears, while also highlighting how midwives advocate and coordinate with hospital care.
We Heal with Time - I Would Have Another Community Birth Despite My Trauma
Q: What led you to choose an out-of-hospital birth initially?
Amber explains a history of home birth from her own mother, preferring a birth space she could control and feel safe in, which led her to select a birth center and later transition only when medical needs necessitated it.
I Midwifed the Community as the Community Midwifed Me
Q: And why do you need to precept and teach? Why are you always holding the hand of a student?
Her answer centers on legacy, passing on gifts and knowledge to the next generation, and ensuring there is a sustainable, compassionate future for midwifery.
