Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Hugh Herr's bionic revolution: when technology becomes part of us
Q: What are the biggest challenges for making advanced prosthetics widely accessible?
Affordability, reimbursement, and building scalable infrastructure—training clinicians, supply chains, and safe, robust technologies—are essential to broaden access beyond wealthy nations.
Hugh Herr's bionic revolution: when technology becomes part of us
Q: What makes the brain–machine interface essential compared to purely robotics and AI focused approaches?
Bidirectional neural interfaces enable true embodiment, restoring natural movement and sensation by linking the nervous system directly to the mechatronics, rather than just using external robotic assistance.
Hugh Herr's bionic revolution: when technology becomes part of us
Q: Could you paint a picture of the world your team is working toward?
A world where technology becomes integrated into human physiology to the point that it is embodied, allowing people to overcome limitations and engage in activities they love with agency and control.
Closing the disability wealth gap: an investor's case for inclusive design | Regina Kline
Q: Why did you decide to move from civil rights law into venture capital, and how does that connect to your four-area investment focus?
Because the bottleneck was always the tools people needed to access opportunity; capital could empower makers and designers who build those tools from the ground up, aligning innovation with inclusive outcomes across work, education, and daily life.
Closing the disability wealth gap: an investor's case for inclusive design | Regina Kline
Q: First, can you take us back to before you became an investor and your first job after university? What were you doing, and how did you see your role in the world?
I had a non-linear career focused on inequality and access, starting with housing insecurity issues, moving through law school, and ultimately working in the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ to enforce the ADA, which shaped my belief that tools and design determine opportunity.
