  • Entertaining and enlightening

This is an excellent podcast. Michael is a truly good interviewer - he gets his interviewees to relax, open up and talk about their work, their instruments and their lives.

Anyone who’s interested in musical instruments, especially wooden ones, and most especially guitars, will enjoy it. Those of you who are already interested in the craft of lutherie will love it. And some of you who are looking for a vocation in the world of music that doesn’t require musical virtuosity might even discover so... more

98. Gary Southwell (Southwell Guitars)
Q: What do you think has been your greatest asset in riding all those ups and downs for 50 years and kept you in business?
It's not just a love that makes you do that. It's an obsession, isn't it really? It's a desire to all, you know, the next one is always going to be the best one.
98. Gary Southwell (Southwell Guitars)
Q: Could you say that you're kind of the originator or popularized or maybe the first one to use Bog Oak on a guitar?
Yes, I kind of all those really. I used it in small amounts way back in the 1980s really, more for decorative purposes than anything.
97. Max Monterosso
Q: Did you have a conscious decision to start the learning curve years before using the machine?
Yes, it was a very conscious decision dictated by limits of resources.
97. Max Monterosso
Q: Did you have any woodworking experience before building guitar?
Absolutely nothing, I probably had a few screwdrivers and hammers.
97. Max Monterosso
Q: How different is it to build a harp guitar versus a regular sixth string?
It's an order of magnitude of headaches, considered like double the work.
