  • Partisan Pinker

Pinker was seriously disappointing in this last episode. This supposed champion of open, rational debate responded to the issue of Charlie Kirk's assassination and political violence not by decrying the fact a man was shot dead for having open debate (by a nutter clearly egged on by leftist hysteria), but by immediately making the issue all about rightwing outrage at this clearly outrageous act. Likewise, Pinker declined multiple offers to comment on the way leftwing elites have stifled free spe... more

  • Astute and challenging

I like UnHerd’s commitment to be wide ranging, challenging and intellectually curious, leading to a really interesting mix of topics and guests on the show to keep it feeling fresh. Freddie is an astute and politely robust interviewer, challenging guests without being combative. My only criticism is your ad placement is DREADFUL, sometimes happening in the middle of sentences. Please sort this out to make it a better listening experience.

  • Moderately right

I have to say as a moderately left person (a New England type so fairly if quietly conservative) I don’t agree with a lot in this show. Some of the quests are in fact nuts. But there is a moderation to the host himself that keeps me listening. Plus I’m just curious about other POVs.

  • Show gone downhill

Shame to see this show go from interviewing credible people with sensible ideas to talking to populists and anarchists and entertaining disestablishment ideas.

Q: What is your take on the cancel culture and the questions that are deemed unacceptable to ask?

Steven Pinker: Questions that shouldn't be asked
Q: What is common knowledge, and why does it matter?
Common knowledge refers to information known by everyone within a group, which is crucial for social coordination and creating norms that impact behaviors.
Paul Kingsnorth: How to fight the Machine
Q: Is there not a risk that if we demonize the machine, technology, whatever, that we actually cede strategic relevance to places like China, Russia, our enemies, and all of the benefits that we have from our security, such as freedom, disappear as a result of that?
Kingsnorth argues against the notion of competing in a morally compromised manner, emphasizing the need to understand the direction of technology rather than merely racing towards it for geopolitical advantage.
Paul Kingsnorth: How to fight the Machine
Q: How do you see that? Is this just the excitable rhetoric of Silicon Valley technicians? Or do you think there is an external force of some kind that is being made manifest?
Kingsnorth believes there are external forces, possibly demonic, at play in technology's growth, reflecting how tech is being shaped by a radical modern mindset that disconnects humans from their essence.
