  • Love

Listening to Live Wire on my commute brings me so much joy. Luke and Elena bring the perfect balance of humor, warmth, positivity, and oddly specific geographic knowledge. I love hearing from writers about their lives and artistic process. The standup routines, musical guests, “best news,” and station location examination segments are not only entertaining, but a true comfort in these challenging times. This show is a major highlight of my week!

  • Damp January

With new guidelines recommending a cancer warning label for alcohol and thinking about why I consume alcohol, this series is thoughtful and got me thinking about different perspectives. I also appreciate Luke’s courage and honesty in the interview with his mom and his own experience with alcohol. Worth listening to!

  • Best Weekly Podcast Around

There’s nothing that delights me more during my busy week than to be notified that Live Wire has dropped another episode. Luke and Elena are delightful and charming and their dynamic is top notch. The guests they have on are obviously chosen with great care, and even when I may not have an immediate recognition of the guest’s work, I’m soon drawn into the interview and I walk away more informed about the world around me. Best News is fun and light, and Station Location Identification is a great ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Chuck Klosterman, and Making Movies (REBROADCAST)
Q: What do you think about Reality Bites and its portrayal of Generation X?
He argues that Reality Bites reflects a very Gen X-centric view, valuing authenticity over compromise, which was a relevant sentiment at that time but may not resonate the same way today for younger audiences.
Chuck Klosterman, and Making Movies (REBROADCAST)
Q: Would you rather have Ross Perot as your president or Polly Shore as your roommate?
Klosterman chooses Polly Shore as his roommate, reasoning that while Perot may not be qualified for presidency, Shore would certainly be more bearable company.
Chuck Klosterman, and Making Movies (REBROADCAST)
Q: You say that the internet is like the invention of the wheel. How does that relate?
Klosterman explains that while the wheel had existed for a long time, the understanding and technology to utilize it (like the axle) needed to develop first, similar to how the internet's real impact came once people became comfortable with personal computing.
Chuck Klosterman, and Making Movies (REBROADCAST)
Q: What is it about the 90s that made you want to write about it? Why is the 90s actually more impactful than we think?
Klosterman argues that every decade holds significance, and he finds it fascinating that people diminish the importance of the 90s. He points out that the 90s represented a time of shared experiences and cultural understanding that wouldn't be replicated in the same way in future decades due to the rise of individualistic and subjective views.
Dylan Marron, and Brittany Davis (REBROADCAST)
Q: Is there any hope for the way that we treat each other online?
People are eager to connect, but social media gamifies interaction, encouraging negativity.
