Dave Hobrecht | Legends of Art
Q: Dave, walk me through how you started as a painter and where your art began.
Dave explains that his art began with painting and drawing after a traumatic accident in eighth grade; he used pencil and later gravitated to charcoal and pastel to achieve deeper tones, driven by the desire for realism and depth.
Over 60 Years of Photography with Michael Zagaris | Legends of Photography
Q: What's the parallel between shooting music and shooting sports, from your perspective?
Both require being at the top level, with innate confidence built on a foundation of insecurity, and in both worlds I approached it as being part of the moment rather than merely chronicling it, aiming to make the subjects feel like they are on the team.
Over 60 Years of Photography with Michael Zagaris | Legends of Photography
Q: When did you first start shooting baseball, and how did you break into it?
I started around 1972 after being involved with music photography and winding up in the right place at the right time, assisting a team photographer and choosing to shoot behind the scenes and in the dugout to bring readers closer to the action.
Matt Painter & Cori Close | 2026 Wooden Awards
Q: How did Coach Wooden influence your approach to leadership and program building?
Wooden's legacy lives in the pyramid of success and the emphasis on foundational values like industriousness, loyalty, and teamwork, which guided how I built and sustained Purdue's program.
Matt Painter & Cori Close | 2026 Wooden Awards
Q: Coach Painter, what are you most proud of?
I'm most proud of the balance we maintained and our emphasis on education within the program, particularly as it relates to name, image, and likeness decisions and the importance of preparing players for life beyond basketball.
