- Accents are incorrect and creator says “Viet-ma-nese”??
I am an educator and was looking for a simple podcast to recommend to students. This was not it. Not only are the tones completely incorrect, but the creator has a child crying in the background. The worst part though was in the very first episode at 2:50 the creator says “Viet-ma-nese” instead of Vietnamese. You have no business teaching someone a language when you can’t even pronounce its name correctly.

I feel a little bad writing this review. I am curious what the motivation for making this podcast was, as it doesn’t really seem like much time was spent preparing, the pronunciation is not correct, and there is nothing special being presented here. Also, the sound quality is not good and can hear background noises such as a baby crying.

My wife is Vietnamese, so I’ve been trying to learn the language. It is tonal so the way you pronounce the word is crucial to it being understood. The teacher here does not speak with the correct accent so you would not be understood if you follow her. It sounds like a western person reading the letters without any real experience with the language (speaking myself as a western person who did this and could not be understood in vietnam).
