  • Making yourself better

I had been pulling my hair out trying to get along with my 12 year old daughter who constantly rebelled about almost everything I tried to do with her. Every time I wanted to go hiking or try a new restaurant, it was a major drama. I finally told myself that I was going to be patient with her as this was a hard time to grow up. So, I endured hung out at these annoying malls. Eventually, we would walk around, have hot chocolate and talk about the world. I stopped trying to change her behavior (ex... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

355: Your Visibility Inventory
Q: I keep meaning to have the career conversation with my manager but never do. What's the smallest step to start this?
Start with one sentence: I have been thinking about where I want to go next, and I'd like to start having that conversation. Put it on the calendar and acknowledge you're beginning the discussion; you don't have to finish it today.
355: Your Visibility Inventory
Q: What can I do to move from being seen as an executor to being seen as a strategic thinker?
The gap is usually about showing thinking, not capability. In your next one-on-one, bring a recommendation with analysis, not just a status update, so others see your thinking process and rationale.
355: Your Visibility Inventory
Q: I've started anchoring my name to my ideas in meetings but I still feel awkward. How long until it stops feeling like too much?
The discomfort is not a sign you're doing it wrong; it signals you're doing something new that your nervous system hasn't categorized as safe yet. Repetition is required, and you should watch for the shape of the discomfort changing, not its disappearance.
351: Your Confidence Inventory
Q: Is there a point where I accept I'm not a confident person, given years of work without seeing changes?
Confidence isn't fixed. If your work has been mostly internal mindset work, shift toward external, observable reps and evidence, and identify where you've been thinking rather than doing so you can start the loop in that area.
351: Your Confidence Inventory
Q: If I'm confident in some areas but not others, how do I bring the confident version into every space?
You're not two different people; you need to build evidence in the new areas until the self-trust is available there too, using the same loop of action, evidence, and belief.
