  • The Best Linux Podcasts

The Late Night Linux family of podcasts are the BEST Linux podcasts. Joe and the rest of the personalities make the podcasts FUN and not just reading the news. Other Linux podcasts take themselves too seriously or try too hard to be funny. LNL gets it right. There is occasional “adult” language.

  • A lot of actually intelligent people being dragged down by Joe's completely unfounded ego. Finally had to unsubscribe.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

2.5 Admins 279: Short One
Q: What's the one bit of advice you'd have for someone looking to get to your level of professional experience as a sysadmin?
Find things that you actually want to do that involve system administration and document them.
2.5 Admins 277: Battering RAM
Q: Can you guys suggest a solution for bandwidth monitoring on a medium-sized network, 300 clients?
The tool that you're looking for is called nettop-ng, and as I recall, it's actually available as a plugin directly within PF sense itself, which is good because in order to run nettop-ng, you either need to be running directly on the gateway out to the internet itself, or you need to be running on a machine with a NIC in promiscuous mode plugged into a switch port that has been set in monitoring mode.
Linux After Dark – Episode 111
Q: Any horror stories from when you were first doing IT support for people?
The hosts share various humorous anecdotes, including Joe losing data during a Windows reinstall and Chris dealing with a DVD stuck in a computer.
2.5 Admins 273: Reliability Tracking
Q: Do you have any advice on specific vendors?
Chodem is great for rugged builds, Minis Forum for compact PCs, and consider used Dell Optiplexes for budget options.
2.5 Admins 273: Reliability Tracking
Q: Would you recommend using a mini PC in this case, or just a VM with GPU pass through from my much stronger main machine?
A dedicated mini PC would provide maximum isolation and security compared to RDP from your main computer, though a VM is also acceptable.
