In the mid-1970s, the Republican Party looked on the verge of self-destruction. Until 1976. A political earthquake: A cutthroat, razor-close, deeply personal battle for the Republican nomination, and the party's identity. It resurrected the GOP, remade it as a conservative party, and pulled the country sharply to the right. Landslide is the story of the closest presidential primary race in America... more

This series explains so much of how we arrived at our current political situation. It covers the time of the 70-80s, politics which were too recent to be covered in my schooling as history, but too old for me to have been alive to experience. This gap in my education really astonished me to learn about. The stories are incredible, and it’s amazing how quickly history repeats itself in some ways.
This is really good but it has a strong slant against conservative thought and as such not fair. It would have been better if it was more neutral.
I have learned so much in every episode I’ve listened to and I’ve shared with several friends and my small social media peeps. My first election was 1980, and I got to relive my horrible decision to vote for Reagan. Please keep it up. 😸
Just another typical NPR podcast where every example is right wing with no admission that the same issues are there on the left wing too.
I learned so much from this podcast! Thank you!!
