  • Meh

They name drop (the most helpful nuggets - to study/see on own time)yet they just say stuff that most other artists say about struggles/self-deprecation.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Make The Art No One Is Asking For with Jeff Musser
Q: How do you handle moments of self-doubt when a piece isn't coming together and you worry you'll be ignored?
I remind myself that even great artists faced doubt, and that persistence—continuing to make and respond to the work—renders the fear less loud over time. It's about staying in the game and allowing the process to teach you.
Make The Art No One Is Asking For with Jeff Musser
Q: Can you talk about the idea of finding a problem only you can solve within your work and how that shapes what you choose to make?
The goal is to address a problem or a niche in a way no one else can, so the work becomes essential to conversations about a period, movement, or culture. This gives the piece lasting relevance and makes it harder for critics to dismiss.
Make The Art No One Is Asking For with Jeff Musser
Q: You've mentioned that you intentionally leave holes in sketches to allow for discovery. How does that mindset influence your final painting?
I treat the gaps as opportunities for the piece to reveal itself rather than forcing it to conform to a plan. It's a deliberate shift from purely controlled realism to a process that embraces improvisation and risk, which often leads to more authentic and unexpected outcomes.
Art Friendships That Fuel The Work
Q: How do you handle rejection and keep submitting to opportunities?
Trust in your work, give yourself space to process, and stay persistent by focusing on the long-term path rather than one-off openings.
Art is Hard. What If The Hard Part Is The Point. We Are In A Fight With The Work.
Q: What do you tell people? What advice do you give people to do that type of inner work?
To get rid of the noise when you're in the studio, finding ways to focus and separate from distractions is vital.
