  • One of my favorites from Channel253!

As a white woman in education, this podcast is one of my go to resources for how to be anti-racist in my particular context. I always learn something new from the conversations Hope and Annie (and now Hope and Megan!) have with amazing guests. These conversations have been especially important and grounding during this unprecedented back to school season. Thank you IWL and Channel253 for this awesome podcast!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 229: They’re Not Real, So Why Am I Crying w/ Author Kate Schatz
Q: What inspired you to pivot from non-fiction to fiction for this story?
I wanted to explore a rich, character-driven world and give myself space to imagine different experiences within the maternity home context, while also honoring my mom's story with enough distance to explore broader themes.
Ep. 228 Sisters, Sinners & Sleuths w/ Author Margot Douaihy
Q: How do you access Sister Holiday's voice when writing, and what is your process for staying in character across multiple books?
I use a combination of quiet prayer and reflection, leaning on the character's inner logic and the support of the community she builds within the stories. The character acts as a tuning fork to align my own memory, experiences, and imagination with her world, which helps me stay consistent across the quartet.
Ep. 226: What’s For Dinner w/ sweetpea flaherty
Q: What books or trends do you think will define the reading experience for 2026?
Sweet Pea Flaherty and the hosts discuss various upcoming books and literary trends including poetry collections, memoirs, and cookbooks.
Ep. 225: What Pop Culture Icons Can Teach Us About Economics w/ Swiftynomics Author Misty Heggeness
Q: What can be done in terms of those issues to alleviate that poverty?
I think we need public policies to step in, like universal child care, which is not rocket science and has been proven feasible.
Ep. 225: What Pop Culture Icons Can Teach Us About Economics w/ Swiftynomics Author Misty Heggeness
Q: Who did you picture reading it? Who was your intended audience when you were writing it?
I was thinking about young women, to be totally honest, and the struggles that younger women have today in terms of balancing career and family.
