  • Quality information

I have been listening to you for a while. I just went back to listen to the earlier episode on the Internal Market Bill. This is what an engaged citizen wants, in my view. Less on controversy, more on actual content of the proposed bill, the motivation of the legislator, and how various key stakeholderes will view it. An rich, but easy listening discussion, nonetheless.

  • Lost my patience

Lost my patience and temper with this. Some guests are unbelievably snooty, especially from the food and drink association who seem to have their collective heads in the sand. The sheer arrogance and exceptionalism just gets on my nerves now. Had enough!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

What does the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act mean for children’s social care?
Q: How does the Children's Well-being and Schools Act and the government's reforms more broadly change that reality?
The reforms centre on shifting spending toward earlier family help, strengthening a more confident child protection system, and unlocking the power of family networks, with multi-agency teams and a focus on prevention to reduce reliance on costly later-stage interventions.
What will the 2026 devolved elections mean for Scotland, Wales and the UK?
Q: How might nationalist governments across devolved nations affect intergovernmental relations?
With nationalist administrations potentially in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, intergovernmental dynamics could become more complex, requiring flexible cooperation on budgets, public services, and constitutional questions while managing a UK-wide policy agenda.
What will the 2026 devolved elections mean for Scotland, Wales and the UK?
Q: What are the likely scenarios for Scotland and Wales after the vote?
Experts outline a narrow range for Scotland with SNP majority or minority outcomes and more fluid arrangements in Wales, where Plaid Cymru and Reform are central to potential leadership outcomes; coalitions and cross-party arrangements are likely to shape government formation.
A keynote speech by Matthew Pennycook MP, Minister for Housing and Planning
Q: What are the biggest practical barriers to a successful transition to commonhold, and how are you addressing them?
Key barriers include public awareness, the complexity of the legal framework, and the need to balance regulation with practical delivery; the approach involves a draft Bill, select committee scrutiny, and a staged programme of secondary legislation to build a coherent package.
A keynote speech by Matthew Pennycook MP, Minister for Housing and Planning
Q: Can you talk us through how you see the transition working in practice, particularly beyond Parliament, and how we will know we're on track in 10 years' time?
The transition hinges on making Common Hold the default tenure, educating the public, and implementing the remaining Law Commission recommendations to enable easier enfranchisement and conversion pathways; different parts will be activated at different times, with clear commencement dates and ongoing consultation to adapt as needed.
