Episode 1474: Think Tank: Regionalization of industry will give Velogy the edge in Europe
Q: What is Velogy's core structure and why is it standalone now?
Velogy is built around transforming mid-sized assets carved out from LyondellBasell into a standalone, entrepreneurial company with a strong balance sheet and a lean governance model, enabling faster decision making and closer customer focus.
Episode 1473: Think Tank: Chemical distributors adapt to Middle East war impact
Q: Would you like to pick out anything that you found interesting or worth exploring further from what Dorothee was saying?
Paul notes that we are entering a world of great power conflict and local-for-local dynamics, with a focus on diversification, local sourcing, and financial health of customers as key to resilience.
Episode 1473: Think Tank: Chemical distributors adapt to Middle East war impact
Q: So in terms of supply and demand dynamics, which is the next topic I'd like to talk about, would you say that this fear at consumer level of higher inflation, of higher interest rates, is depressing demand even more?
The discussion highlights that uncertainty will suppress demand and push investments to be cautious, with distributors having to manage through volatility by strengthening supply reliability and diversifying risk.
Episode 1477: Think Tank: Sale of stockpiles explains China’s massive wartime export boost
Q: What is driving the unusual demand-supply dynamics in the current period?
Disruptions in the Middle East have reduced some availability, but China's massive inventory releases and its growing olefin capacity are providing a significant offset, leading to a more complex global balance than typical disruption periods.
Episode 1475: Increasing polyols from China to Europe a key concern at industry conference
Q: Based on ICIS data, Chinese polyol capacities grew by over 900,000 tons per year in 2025. How much capacity is expected to be added in 2026 and 2027?
Yes, indeed, Chinese polyol capacities are growing year on year. Between 2025 and 2026, we're expecting around 1.14 million tons per year addition in Chinese capacities. From 2026 to 2027, we're expecting an additional 1.02 million tons per year.
