Episode 1485: China PE Market Outlook for H2 2026: Navigating a Wave of Supply Growth
Q: Amy, can exports help ease some pressure on the domestic market in the second half?
Exports are unlikely to provide relief in H2 given Southeast Asia oversupply, crowded inventories, and a tightened arbitrage window, so the domestic market should continue digesting added supply with limited export-driven price support.
Episode 1485: China PE Market Outlook for H2 2026: Navigating a Wave of Supply Growth
Q: Joanne, what's your view on where import volumes are headed for the rest of the year?
Imports are likely to rebound in H2 as high inventories in the US and Middle East push sales into China, but the window may close as crude prices stabilize and arbitrage narrows; overall, imports will be a pressure point but not enough to offset domestic supply growth.
Episode 1487: PODCAST: Asia PET resin market faces margin pressure, export challenges amid feedstock volatility
Q: What has been happening in the market recently?
PET prices in Asia surged earlier in the year due to regional conflicts and then eased as supply and stocks adjusted; margins expanded with rising prices but have since eroded as stocks weakened, with a later uptick in July before a cautious outlook for further price weakness.
Episode 1486: Think Tank: War brings new risks for gas supply, especially for Europe and Asia
Q: What should a European chemical executive do to prepare for possible shortages or elevated energy costs?
Conduct a rapid internal risk assessment, run forward-looking scenarios, and consider forward buying for diesel, gasoline, and possibly oil or LNG to mitigate spikes in prices later in the year.
Episode 1486: Think Tank: War brings new risks for gas supply, especially for Europe and Asia
Q: Does this mean chemical companies in Europe should expect to pay a premium for gas for the rest of the year?
Yes, a premium is possible if demand for storage injections remains high, though it will be balanced by potential demand destruction. The overall risk is elevated.
