  • Weather is fascinating!

I have always been fascinated with weather since I got my pilots license 42 years ago. I enjoy reading about the forces which cause hurricanes to develop and this podcast presents such information in such a way that laymen and women can understand it. They keep it interesting for sure!

  • Too much technical not enough simplicity

I was looking for a podcast to review hurricanes in the country, not hear everyone technical detail for an hour. Please make more user friendly for us non meteorologists

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S8: Ep 138: A Quieter Hurricane Season? Dr. Phil Klotzbach on El Niño, Arthur & the 2026 Outlook
Q: What is the main reason for forecasting a below-normal hurricane season this year?
The primary reason is the development of a strong El Niño, which increases vertical wind shear and tends to suppress stronger hurricane activity in the Atlantic, leading to a quieter overall season.
S6: Episode 22 Weather Instrumentation - RM Young Co.
Q: I have some thoughts. I just want to know how digital technology and AI is impacting what y'all are doing, and if it is playing a role in what you're designing and what's going out now and in the near future.
The team describes that sensors support both analog and digital outputs, with a focus on IoT and future AI integration, while emphasizing data quality and coverage to feed AI models; ongoing conversations with AI spaces center on filling data gaps (dead spots) and Snow Science applications.
S6: Episode 15 - Hurricane Proofing Your Home - FORTIFIED
Q: What is Fortified and how does it differ from standard building practices?
Fortified is a voluntary, tiered standard built on wind, rain, and later wildfire research that adds small, cost-effective upgrades above code, with a strong emphasis on a sealed roof deck, proper load paths, and opening protections to improve resilience.
S6: Episode 13 - Dr. Kim Klockow - Extreme Weather Messaging
Q: Kim, has there been a time in your career when you saw a message land effectively?
The answer highlights that the most meaningful impact comes from building relationships and trusted local networks, which translates into more responsive communities and better adherence to guidance over time.
S8: Ep: 135 - When the Power Goes Out: Extreme Weather, Critical Infrastructure & Shared Intelligence — Sunny Wescott
Q: Could you give us a pitch on ISACs and what they do?
ISACs are sector-specific information sharing organizations where private entities—from small businesses to large banks—converge to share best practices, problem sets, and solutions. They help break down silos across industries and enable collaboration with government and scientific communities to improve resilience against weather-related and cyber threats.
