  • Weather is fascinating!

I have always been fascinated with weather since I got my pilots license 42 years ago. I enjoy reading about the forces which cause hurricanes to develop and this podcast presents such information in such a way that laymen and women can understand it. They keep it interesting for sure!

  • Too much technical not enough simplicity

I was looking for a podcast to review hurricanes in the country, not hear everyone technical detail for an hour. Please make more user friendly for us non meteorologists

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S6: Episode 12 - What's the Latest Hurricane Research
Q: Do you think we're getting more rapid intensification and stronger hurricanes due to climate change?
Yes, we are observing more rapid intensification due to lower environmental vertical shear during La Niña conditions.
S6: Episode 12 - What's the Latest Hurricane Research
Q: What have we learned new in the time you've been looking at the impacts of the El Nino-La Niña cycle on hurricane activity?
Dr. Camargo discussed how advancements in data collection and analysis allow for better understanding of the differences in cyclone response across various basins.
S6: Episode 12 - What's the Latest Hurricane Research
Q: What triggered you to go into this line of work?
Dr. Camargo shared her background in physics and how she transitioned to climate studies at Columbia University after being hired by the International Research Institute on Climate and Society.
S5: Episode 15 - Ocean Connections to Hurricanes
Q: What would you say is like the biggest challenge right now to moving ahead with improving oceanographic models?
The use of global ocean models presents a challenge as they cannot refine local processes effectively. Improving data assimilation for hurricane-specific applications is another hurdle.
S5: Episode 15 - Ocean Connections to Hurricanes
Q: When you mentioned building these ocean dynamical models, I'd imagine remote sensing is a huge part of that, could you talk about some of these innovations using gliders, using drones?
The gliders are deployed in areas where there are few measurements of the vertical structure of the ocean, complementing remote sensing to obtain a full picture of ocean conditions.
