フランスでは建物の建て替えをすることがほとんどありません。
特に個人の家は、建て増しや大改装であるリノベーションをすることはあっても、1度建てた家を壊して立て直すということは、まずないのです。
そのため、家の外観を見るだけでも、ある地域がいつ頃住宅地になったのかがわかります。
まして家の内部の作りを見ると、およそ10年単位で変わってきた流行の跡が見て取れるのです…。
早いもので、フランス在住30年以上になります。
なので、これまでたくさんのフランス人のお宅にお邪魔してきました。
すると、そこに住む人たちの暮らしも垣間見えて、いろいろな話しを聞いてきたのですが、結構な割合で「かわいらしいおばあちゃん」がいることに気づいたのです…。
日本で広く使われている外来語には、フランス語由来のものが少なくありません。
外来語があることでフランス語の単語が覚えやすくなる反面、本来の意味が抜け落ちたり、変わってしまうことすらあります。
