  • Good & informative

I’m glad I found this podcast through East Meets West Hunt. Been very good, informative and easy to follow along.

My only request would be some more content for “old“ people. I know the target audience is mid 20s to mid 40s. , But there are a lot of us 50 and up that are still staying in shape for hunting.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

95: Fueling, Mindset, Vision, and Books
Q: What three books would you recommend and why?
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance for perspective on how we think; Dan John's Building the Elite for foundational training concepts; East of Eden for a deep human understanding and narrative insight; plus another to illustrate varied approaches depending on reader needs.
95: Fueling, Mindset, Vision, and Books
Q: What about ancestral fueling vs. modern fueling for workouts?
Balance is key: don't fall for extremes; fuel to support training and daily activity, favor whole foods, but use fast calories like candy or gels during long bouts when needed, and tailor to your stomach and activity level.
95: Fueling, Mindset, Vision, and Books
Q: How should I handle mindset when missing workouts?
Treat missed sessions as part of life rather than a failure; measure by overall trajectory, adjust by redefining success, and do what you can within the time available to maintain consistency.
94: Fix Tight Hips After Rucking, How I've Changed My Mind About Nutrition
Q: What is the biggest thing you've changed your mind about in training or nutrition over the past five years?
The most significant shift has been rethinking protein intake to 1.6–1.9 g/kg for active individuals (not the traditional higher pounds-based targets), paying attention to carbs for fueling longer sessions, and acknowledging the value of selective supplementation (creatine, vitamin D, fish oil, magnesium glycinate, L-citrulline) with attention to actual effective doses.
94: Fix Tight Hips After Rucking, How I've Changed My Mind About Nutrition
Q: How would you program a dedicated mobility training day, given hip tightness after pack work?
Start by fixing the pack fit and centered weight distribution; then implement post-ruck mobility like 90-90 hip opens, half kneeling hip flexor stretches, cat-cows, a table lift for hip extension, and light spinal mobility, while keeping sessions short (about 15 minutes) and integrated into warmups or cooldowns rather than a separate day unless mobility is severely limited.
