  • Highly politicised strategic analysis

This is podcast is one part serious geopolitical, military and strategic analysis and discussion, one part trump campaign rally. The inability to separate the banality of Fox News style political propaganda from objective analysis seriously detracts from the many excellent speakers and guests. Some are so biased that their constant overt political statements both undermines the objectivity of their conclusions and policy recommendations and degrades their credibility as experts within their resp... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Georgia at a Geopolitical Crossroads: Iranian Influence and Strategic Competition
Q: What incentives could deter Georgian Dream from continuing to align with Iran while engaging with sanctions?
Panelists suggest making the relationship conditional on visible reforms and rule-of-law improvements, expanding sanctions where appropriate, and tying engagement to concrete actions against Iranian networks and civil-society restrictions.
Cuba: Prospects for Transition
Q: Given Cuba's history, what role could civil society and the Catholic Church realistically play in a post-dominant Cuba?
Civil society and religious institutions, historically repressed, could play a significant role in education, social norms, and non-political civic engagement, helping to cultivate a culture of pluralism and respect for human rights, provided they are allowed space by a reformed political framework.
Cuba: Prospects for Transition
Q: How should the international community, particularly the U.S., prepare to address the challenges of a Cuban transition?
The international community should coordinate with regional partners, maintain targeted pressure to encourage political prisoners' release and reforms, support humanitarian aid that reaches ordinary Cubans (not the regime), and consider calibrated security assurances and non-coercive engagement to foster a gradual transition without precipitating crisis.
Cuba: Prospects for Transition
Q: What options do you see on the table for the United States and Cuba in terms of a potential transition, and how likely is each option?
Options range from a negotiated political-economic reform with limited concessions to external peacekeeping or more assertive pressure. The likelihood of negotiated reform exists but depends on internal Cuban dynamics and the willingness of Raúl Castro's circle to permit change; external measures could help shape a transition but must avoid destabilizing consequences, and doing nothing remains a less favored option.
A Conversation with Former METI Minister Nishimura on Prime Minister Takaichi’s Policy Outlook and Solutions
Q: What is the role of METI in the Takaichi era, and how does that differ from the past?
Policy decisions remain in the hands of politicians, but METI now plays a more proactive role under a policy framework that emphasizes resilience, economic security, and rapid response to global dynamics.
