先進国の中で死刑を行う数少ない国、日本とアメリカ。ただ日本とは異なり、アメリカでは死刑制度を維持するために、情報公開が必要だという立場をとっています。
５月１７日の『報道特集』では、アメリカ・テキサス州の刑務所で撮影した死刑囚のインタビューや、死刑執行現場の様子を放送。これまで、国内外の死刑囚への面会を重ねるなど、「命」をテーマに取材を続けてきた西村匡史記者とともに、死刑をめぐる情報公開の在り方について議論しました。

５月１０日の放送では、塀もなければ鉄格子もない、国内で唯一、開放処遇を行う少年院を取り上げました。
担当したのは、国内にある少年院の半分近くで取材を続けてきた、瀬戸雄二ディレクター。２０年間で、１００人を超える少年・少女のインタビューを行ってきました。
今回、瀬戸ディレクターが密着したのは、自殺願望を口にする一人の少年。彼の姿を通じ、現代の非行少年たちが抱える問題に向き合います。
