  • Best Padres podcast

Great insight and analysis. Not too long. They do a good job of an episode per series during the season but need to post episodes more frequently during the off season and spring training!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Mike Shildt’s retirement
Q: What role, if anything, did AJ Preller have in Shildt's decision to step away?
AJ Preller probably had some influence, but their relationship was complex given their similar philosophies and relentless nature.
Cleveland Guardians
Q: What has surprised you the most here through the first four games?
It's surprising that the Padres are 4-0, as this is their first time doing this in almost three years and they had historically not swept the Braves since the 70s.
Offseason news
Q: Is this why they're not spending money?
No, the team was already on a path to throttle down big spending before the lawsuit; this year's plans were not solely influenced by the lawsuit.
Offseason news
Q: Kevin, so many people in your story were quoted anonymously.
There was a valid reason for anonymity to protect the sources, including concerns about legal repercussions.
Washington Nationals
Q: Which game should we go to?
Kevin suggested that fireworks night might be appealing for families, but also acknowledged the draw of seeing Mackenzie Gore pitch.
