Christopher Golden (Alien, Predator, Hellboy, Buffy, Vampirella, The Crow, Daredevil, X-Men...)
Q: What are you currently working on?
I'm juggling comics for Dark Horse, a new Night Birds novel out with St. Martin's, and I just edited The End of the World as We Know It, New Tales of Stephen King's The Stand, with Ryan. There's a lot of writing across different media, all connected by a horror through-line.
Richard Chizmar (Cemetery Dance, Gwendy trilogy, Boogeyman series, Memorials)
Q: How did personal loss influence your writing?
He explains that the fragility of life and multiple family losses pushed him to explore themes of grief, resilience, and the idea that you must find peace with tragedy while continuing to create.
Richard Chizmar (Cemetery Dance, Gwendy trilogy, Boogeyman series, Memorials)
Q: What early memories of horror shaped you?
Richard describes his childhood library visits, affection for creature features, and how fear and fascination with horror came from mixed experiences at the Edgewood Library and in his neighborhood, shaping his later storytelling.
Maurice Broaddus (Sweep of Stars, The Knights of Breton Court, Unfadeable)
Q: Why horror, in the context of your broader writing?
Horror serves as a lens to interrogate identity, race, faith, and injustice, while sci-fi explores agency and possibility; both are essential to his storytelling toolkit.
Maurice Broaddus (Sweep of Stars, The Knights of Breton Court, Unfadeable)
Q: What media from adolescence stood out to you?
Fell in love with Alan Moore, Swamp Thing, and later Grendel; comics and mythology became core influences.
