  • Fantastic Experience with Hoop Heads

Hoop Heads does an excellent job digging out basketball stories from coaches across the country. Mike and his team are looking past the X’s and O’s and digging into the weeds of what it means to be a coach. I had a great experience talking with Mike and I’m a BIG fan of what he’s doing!

Keith Hack - Farleigh Dickinson University - Florham Men's Basketball Head Coach - Episode 1147
Q: What brings you the most joy?
The biggest joy for me is continuing to be able to work in college athletics. It got taken away from me once being in Medaille.
Keith Hack - Farleigh Dickinson University - Florham Men's Basketball Head Coach - Episode 1147
Q: When you think about your dad as a coach and you think about yourself today going into the coaching profession, what's something that when you think about your dad and just the way that he was with you around the game, what's something that you took with you from that experience?
My dad helped me so much growing up, and obviously, I think the biggest thing for me was his ability to never sugarcoat anything for good or for bad. He always told me the truth and be a truth teller in terms of how I played or how I helped the team or if I didn't help the team in anything.
Matt Goldsmith - Middlebury College Men's Basketball Head Coach - Episode 1132
Q: What advice would you have for a coach who takes another job?
You just got to rip the band-aid and go for it and be super transparent, super honest.
Matt Goldsmith - Middlebury College Men's Basketball Head Coach - Episode 1132
Q: What are some things that you feel like you guys are going to need to do well in order to be able to compete at a high level in the league right away?
You can't guard; you're going to have some problems within the league.
Matt Goldsmith - Middlebury College Men's Basketball Head Coach - Episode 1132
Q: What was the most helpful connection? What was the most important call that you made in that pre-interview process?
The most important connection was Kobe Altman, the GM and president of the Cavs, who is a Middlebury basketball alum and helped me connect with the athletic department.
