Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Terry Awls - Glass City Wranglers General Manager & Director of Basketball and Recruiting for Hopson Elite AAU Basketball - Episode 1271
Q: What's the biggest challenge in keeping a pro-side roster consistent?
Maintaining roster consistency and sponsor continuity year after year is the biggest challenge; you need a stable core and reliable partners to avoid constant turnover that undermines team identity.
Terry Awls - Glass City Wranglers General Manager & Director of Basketball and Recruiting for Hopson Elite AAU Basketball - Episode 1271
Q: How do you identify the players you want to bring into Hopson Elite and the Glass City Wranglers?
We look for athletes who want to play in college, evaluate them across their academics and character, and place heavy emphasis on a thorough recruiting process including visits and long-term planning, often working with a broad network of college coaches.
Ednaija "Nay" Lassiter - The Governor's Academy (MA) Girls Basketball Head Coach & CEO of Heavy Hearted Convos - Episode 1276
Q: How does you coaching approach reflect your experiences as a player?
I value transparency, vulnerability, and keeping the team as a cohesive unit; I let players be themselves, give them a voice, and lead with relationships and practical systems rather than rigid control.
Ednaija "Nay" Lassiter - The Governor's Academy (MA) Girls Basketball Head Coach & CEO of Heavy Hearted Convos - Episode 1276
Q: What inspired you to start Heavy Hearted Convos and focus on mental health in sports?
I turned pain into purpose after facing mental health challenges and contemplating how many athletes might be suffering in silence; I wanted to create a platform where conversations could help others navigate similar struggles and find support.
Larry Shyatt - Retired Former Men's Basketball Head Coach at Wyoming & Clemson - Episode 1274
Q: How do you view the modern NIL/transfer landscape compared with when you coached Clemson?
Larry contrasts past recruiting dynamics with today's realities, emphasizing that relationships still matter but money and access have reshaped how decisions are made, while stressing the importance of integrity and prioritizing people over payoffs.
