「落ち着きがない」と教師に欠かさず書かれていた、どうにも落ち着きのない子どもだった。14歳の頃、落ち着くための薬をもらった。飲むと確かに、頭の中を飛び交っていた音や字が減っていった。
真っ白な部屋。やろうと思ったことを最後まで実行することができた。それで毎日をスムーズに乗り越えていった。
とある嵐の日曜日、なんにもやる必要がなくなったので薬を飲まなかった。懐かしいノイズたちが脳に湧き出した。
窓の外は雨風が騒がしい。静かな部屋で、ぼくは自分から生まれてくるノイズに耳を澄ませた。

大学生くらいまでは、音楽というものの価値が自分の中でとても高かった。素晴らしい音楽は色んな所を探して見つけるもので、それを音楽プレーヤーに入れて大事に持ち歩いた。再生すると、素晴らしい世界が展開した。
今でももちろん音楽の素晴らしさに違いはない。ただあまりにもアクセスが容易になり、希少性という価値は僕の中で失われてしまった。音楽の魔力が薄れてしまったように感じるのは、あるいは僕の感受性の衰えだろうか。
もっと昔、レコード発明以前の音楽の魔力はいったいどれほどのものだったろうと、考えてみる。 more
