Your podcast on snoring and other sleep issues was very informative . I have had sleep issues since 2003 after l was diagnosed with Thyroid Stage 2..with life threatening surgery and 2 years of treatments which has whacked my immune system and many other medical issues. It took meds to get back to sleep and if l forget to take it l am up all night.

  • Sugar in our Drinks and Salt in Our Food -- Wrong!

I could only stand so much of this incorrect information! The presentation on salt is incorrect. Salt is NOT well established as a major factor in high blood pressure. Powerful arguments rebut this -- read Gary Taube's "The (Political) Science of Salt". The arguments implicating salt are weak to non-existent. Insulin is a much worse offender, yet it receives no mention. Read the June 4, 2011 JAMA about a study that suggests low salt intake actually increases CVD and stroke risk!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Slowing the Clock: Longevity Science Meets Alzheimer’s Prevention
Q: Should everyone test for p-tau 217?
p-tau 217 testing has FDA approval for individuals with cognitive symptoms suspected of Alzheimer's disease, but it is not a routine test for cognitively healthy people; ethical considerations and potential harm from broad testing are noted.
Slowing the Clock: Longevity Science Meets Alzheimer’s Prevention
Q: Is epigenetic clock testing available to the general public, and how could we get our blood tested?
There are some companies that measure epigenetic clocks, and the speaker personally has had it measured, but the technology is not universally standardized or recommended for healthy individuals yet.
It’s Not So Simple: An Examination of How the Internal Revenue Code Fails to Contemplate the Economic Realities of Individuals with Disabilities and Their Families
Q: What will it take to get these changes done?
It starts with being unafraid to talk about personal experiences to influence change.
Filling Your Own Cup: Self-Care from Both Sides of the Clinic Door
Q: What's the best way for families of children with rare diseases to find out about potential clinical trials?
The best way is clinicaltrials.gov, which lists all registered trials. Also, if there's a patient advocacy group, staying connected with them ensures families won't miss trial opportunities.
Filling Your Own Cup: Self-Care from Both Sides of the Clinic Door
Q: Is there a platform where you can just register to see if there's any other parents or people that have a similar case to see how we could help each other?
The online community allows access, but it's daunting. I guide people to quick sleuth or have genetic counselors find patient groups. For ultra-rare cases, there's gene matcher where clinicians connect families with similar genetic variants.
