Reviews

4.4 out of 5 stars from 154 ratings
  • Very David Lynch inspired. Relentlessly oppressive atmosphere. Oddball locals. Nothing quite lines up right.

The Satanic Panic backdrop is interesting, but I also thought the pacing was indulgent. The protagonist spends too much time bumming around the desert, rather than investigating.

  • Good, but…

I dig the tone, the narrator, the story, etc. But what’s with the abrupt ending to a very brief final season episode? It’s overdoing the nihilistic deadpan subtlety.

  • Great story

A very well written story. Some room for growth in the depth of the narrative but over all I am enjoying the Podcast greatly

  • Ignore the haters!

I can understand how those who are new to the world of audio drama or those who aren’t familiar with Howie the milkman might be a little skeptical halfway through the first episode, but you must give it a chance. I am/was a MASSIVE fan of Milkman of St Gaff’s, and while this is a completely separate work, the stylistic choices and narrator’s disposition are very similar. It’s intentional, it gives you a very good sense of the character’s internal workings and how they perceive things, the someti... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

FBI Agent Ken Lanning and the Satanic Panic: Season Two Kickstarter Now Live
Q: How do you differentiate between belief and evidence when evaluating these cases?
By focusing on explicit corroboration, alternative explanations, and querying how stories are formed over time, rather than accepting graphic memories alone; understanding that some details may be accurate while others are not, and recognizing contamination from leading questions or hypnotic suggestion.
FBI Agent Ken Lanning and the Satanic Panic: Season Two Kickstarter Now Live
Q: What initially drew you to the satanic ritual abuse topic, and how did your understanding evolve over time?
I started by collecting cases with the four core features and then expanded to examine why even highly educated professionals believed these narratives, recognizing how fear, zealotry, and emotional investment can distort objectivity, and how evidence sometimes fails to corroborate the sensational claims.
