One time at work I was having what I considered and incredibly fun conversation/debate about the academie francais and attempts to standardize language and how our ideas of "grammatically correct" english inherently privilege white middle class americans. With the arrival of the offseason and the recommendation of Holly Anderson, I’ve made the choice to put HITD in my rotation. While driving home from watching the Indiana championship celebration with my mother, alive with the joy of an unfathomable achievement, I listened to the latest episode which hit its apex with Felder’s exploration of his deep-sown dislike of Michigan thanks to a traumatic barbecue experience at the hands of his wife’s relations. I gave this a podcast a shot because I enjoy Shutdown Fullcast, but I had to bail before I lost the ability to think in complete sentences. A laid-back, long-form show that combines gardening, football culture, and everyday life through candid banter among three main hosts. Episodes frequently blend personal life updates with sports hot takes, DIY projects, and listener voicemails, creating a hangout vibe that balances practical tips (yard work, gardening, cooking) with humorous storytelling and pop-culture riffs. Notable strengths include a strong sense of community, spontaneous guest appearances, and a lifestyle emphasis that appeals to listeners who want space for human moments, parenting anecdotes, and backyard projects alongside sports talk. A few episodes lean into solo or small-group formats, but the core remains a warm, irreverent group dynamic with recurring themes aro... more
