In the late 1940s, CBS chairman William S. Paley, a fan of the Philip Marlowe radio series, asked his programming chief, Hubell Robinson, to develop a hardboiled Western series, a show about a "Philip Marlowe of the Old West". Robinson instructed his West Coast CBS Vice President, Harry Ackerman, who had developed the Philip Marlowe series, to take on the task.

As we know, Gunsmoke takes place in Dodge City, KS. I’m not sure why the new cover for the show depicts the southwest (Arizona, New Mexico) and not the prairies in the Midwest. Many radio episodes talk about life in the prairie: the heat, the blizzards, the sod houses and of course the cattle drive which covered the prairies. These activities did not typically take place in the southwest. Please find a more appropriate depiction of Gunsmoke for the cover. Thank-you.
I absolutely love Gunsmoke… it’s my favorite show and podcast.
Memories that are pleasant. Listening is such a relaxing experience, Reminds me of my youth. 😎 Thanks! 👍
The radio version is so much better than the TV Gunsmoke in my opinion. The characters and the plots in the Radio version are more complex and realistic. Glad I started listening to it.
It’s the best
