Dan and James had a chemistry that made the show work. I’m sorry to learn Dan is not doing the show anymore. Of the numerous guests they have, almost all have redeeming qualities except Vic Dorso. He is everything wrong with 1e. He relishes in trumpeting about killing characters. A 20 HD plesiosaur against first level characters? I don’t think you rolled that, and if you did and didn’t mitigate it, you have the good sense of a turnip. He’s an inarticulate shiller: yeah, we heard about the Keep a... more
This podcast rules. If you love D&D, this will easily become your favorite show as these two brilliant raconteurs explore all the lore, origins, rules and idiosyncrasies of Advanced D&D with humor and nostalgia guiding the way. The show connects you to a wonderful old school gaming community with cons and magazines of their very own. Easily my favorite podcast of all time, i cannot recommend them enough to fans of AD&D, new and old.
One of the best 1e podcasts out there and the random encounter for episode 70 was the best one ever.
Found GrogTalk looking for AD&D podcasts and have loved every minute of the first three episodes! Am bingeing them now to catch up and trying to find a way to get to Florida for GrogCon! Dan and James do a great job explaining the feel, tone and ethos of 1e. Makes me feel like I’m back in 1981 playing the best edition of D&D. Keep up the good work!
105 Episodes in and the sound quality sounds like they are literally phoning in. Can't take it anymore, sorry fellas.

This podcast is beneficial and insightful on how to play/run ADnD games. If you are looking to play OSR games, this is the best place to start.
If you love Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (1st Edition) this is the podcast for you! You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll kiss your Tiefling good bye! Dan and James will tell you things like the difference between a Tallfellow and a Hairfeet, what spells your Prestidigitator begins with, and how much your plate mail +5 weighs.
This show has great banter like the radio talk shows of olden times! Fun and informative! My favorite show covering one of my very favorite topics.
This reminds me of the morning radio shows of my youth, they talk about AD&D 1E with a variety of distractions, tangents, sound effects and the occasional guest. Highly recommended.
Thoroughly enjoy this podcast, I have been listening since early 2020 but just switched to iOS and now can leave a review. James and Dan’s laser-like focus on the topic at hand and their strict avoidance of tangents is what keeps me coming back episode after episode. While the previous sentence is a lie, the meandering, pleasant pace allows the listener the chance to sit with the concepts of 1e and really think about them. For most people I imagine that the subject matter will be the contributin... more
I love this show. As a grognard myself, this is just like milk and cookies, wine and cheese, a warm blanket on a cold day. In sum, listening to these guys talk about a 40-year passion reminds me that there is still joy and, maybe, another Vorpal Sword to discover out there. Thanks!
Spending 20 minutes to roll up a second level magic user/thief is what this show is all about.
Are you curious about the intricacies of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons? Do you want to relive those discussions you used to have back in the '80s with your friends about the game? Do you want to listen to congenial hosts discuss something with passion and humour? Well then this is the podcast for you! James and Dan welcome you into the Grogtalk studio to discuss the game we all grew up playing with themselves and with special guests (Titans of the RPG Industry). Dan delves into the minutiae and Ja... more
Like many people I longed for the imagination-driven simplicity and freedom of 1st Edition and found Grog Talk on Youtube. Like the game itself these guys are the authentic real thing, not some cadre of tarted-up posers aping AD&D fandom for irony clicks. If you want to rekindle your connection to Gary’s original game, this is the podcast you’re looking for.
