  • Thoughtful, Insightful, and Fun!

Been listening since close to the beginning and have been on board ever since. Chad’s perspective (gay, Mormon, dad, therapist, former Marvel Universe handbook writer, etc) lends itself to such thoughtful insight and joyful commentary with friends and colleagues when discussing Marvel’s merry mutants. The focus has been the original silver age team, giving me a viewpoint on them that I haven’t had before.

His work and passion shine through it all and I’m so excited for his work in 2025. Can’... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Bonus Patreon Release: Azazel! With Chuck Austen and Ruthanne Price!
Q: Chuck, do you know the character Madeleine Pryor?
Oh yeah, I know Madeleine Pryor; she becomes a major element in Krakoa-era stories and ties into Nightcrawler and Mystique in complex, retconned ways that expand the Nightcrawler family tree and the Demon's influence in the mutant mythos.
Bonus Patreon Release: Azazel! With Chuck Austen and Ruthanne Price!
Q: Chuck, what was your familiarity with the Nightcrawler character when you came on board and he was now on your roster?
I was most familiar with Nightcrawler from the Claremont era and the broader X-Men lore; I came in with the goal of incorporating Nightcrawler deeply and exploring how an antagonist like Azazel could exist within continuity without breaking it, while giving Nightcrawler a meaningful personal connection to an old family line.
Bonus Patreon Release: the Bamfs! Featuring Manolis Vamvounis and Seth Martel!
Q: Did you have a childhood stuffed animal that you were connected with?
Both guests share affectionate memories or lack thereof, and discuss how Bamf dolls function as symbolic proxies for childhood security and later nostalgia, with a reflection on how these toys reappear in comic crossovers.
Bonus Patreon Release: Friends of Humanity! With Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Mike Duven, and Kevin Kiniry!
Q: What makes Friends of Humanity a compelling antagonist to explore in comics and in real-world contexts?
The group embodies the tension between 'protecting' a group and eroding civil rights, using slogans like humanity and family to mask bigotry, which makes it a powerful lens for examining how propaganda operates.
X-Men 101: Like a Phoenix, From the Ashes! Featuring an interview with Seanan Mcguire!
Q: How did writing for the Age of X-Men event influence you?
It allowed me to explore Nightcrawler's character in a new light while addressing themes of identity.
