TBT - Encore Show - Listeners' Questions
Q: Would you advise that I adhere to the space requirements on the seed packets, or can I get away with tighter spacing to grow more in that space?
Spacing is a balance between the seed packet guidelines and your soil fertility and amendments. If your soil is well-amended and rich, you can often plant a bit closer than the packet suggests, but you should avoid overcrowding which competes for nutrients and moisture and can push plants to seed early. A practical approach is to use square-foot style planting and measure out near to the recommended spacing, then adjust based on real soil conditions and plant performance.
Encore for Rain - bring it (back)!
Q: Well, I have what I would call a garden etiquette question. When visiting a friend's garden and you see weeds, is it appropriate to pull them or is that a faux pas?
The hosts suggest it depends on the weed and the situation, but generally you should consider the person's sensitivity, ask for permission if possible, and be mindful of their attire and garden state; using that approach fosters goodwill rather than unintended criticism.
Whoa. Now that's a Greenhouse!
Q: Do you find that that is a learning curve that you've had to deal with, with having a greenhouse?
Scott positively affirms that finding the right balance of environmental control has been a crucial learning curve for him.
Whoa. Now that's a Greenhouse!
Q: How did it go initially? Was that a pretty easy process of just snapping this thing up, or was it a surprise when you started actually putting sticks on the ground?
Scott admits that he got completely over his head during the construction process, facing challenges due to high elevation and weather conditions.
Encore Show: Mountain Roots Produce 2022
Q: Why are you growing food?
Mike shares that he enjoys farming and it provides him an opportunity for problem-solving and independence from having a boss.
