I get, sometimes something just needs to be commented on, and I even sometimes really enjoy the side rants. However, when Hemant can’t seem to go more than 20 seconds into a story and has to pause what he’s saying for yet another paragraph of side commentary, it starts to go from entertaining to annoying.
I always look forward to a new episode and often to try to jump on a Live with Hemant on Instagram when I see it happening.
I live in a very religious area and see a lot of patient- who often try to push their religion on me. It’s extremely frustrating and listening to this podcast makes me feel like there are others out there that can truly see what is happening in religion(s).
Hemant always has great information and Jessica’s comments and reactions give me a good laugh. Thanks for all you g... more
I’ve been an avid lister for many many years. Hehmet and Jessica are both amazing people and a wonderful source for weekly snapshots of the continuing fight for church state separation. After the events of late 2024, they were the first show I was mentally able to listen too and to this day I still remember fondly that small ounce of familiarity, plus the resolve to be brave that they themselves were selflessly able to provide, in which I still tear up thinking about.
I can’t recommend Hehmets ... more
Hi!
I've been listening to this podcast since I was young and I was the only atheist I knew. Your podcast made me feel less alone in a family of pentecostal Christians, when I felt alienated from the world around me. Listening to you guys interact with the world from a non-religious, compassionate perspective has helped shape the person I’ve become.
I finally have my first real full-time job and was so excited to be able to subscribe to your Patreon.
I can’t thank you enough for making this sh... more
The Friendly Atheist is the only podcast I immediately listen to as soon as it comes out. The hosts have a great ability to find fun in the often incredibly important stroies they cover, as well as passionately explaining how even the smallest stories are significant. This show made me a much more dedicated atheist by pointing out the damage religion is doing to people, especially when it gets involved in politics.
Both hosts are great, and especially how they interact. Jessica takes a bit to ... more

A sharp, data-driven discussion on religion, politics, and culture, with a steady focus on church-state separation, atheism, and how belief systems shape public life. Hosts dissect current events, court rulings, and policy debates, pairing rigorous sourcing with engaging humor and candid commentary. The show consistently blends investigative reporting with social critique, offering listeners actionable context for media literacy, advocacy, and decision-making in public policy. A notable strength is the dynamic duo balance—calm, careful analysis from Hemant and energetic, empathetic reactions from Jessica—which helps complex topics land for both skeptics and newcomers. This mix, plus a willingness to tackle provocative topics with wit, makes... more
