  • Passion for the STi

You cannot call yourself a Subaru enthusiast if you don’t have any passion and cannot understand the importance of the STi.

….from a Subaru Ambassador that owns multiple Subies including an STi.

  • Good show & content

I’ve listened to every episode and enjoy listening to the guys.

The audio has improved since they’ve started but there’s room to improve still.

  • Great podcast, but could be better

Flatirons, please use microphones and mix the levels to match the intro. I listen while driving and it is extremely difficult to listen to the podcasts due to using a mic far from the speakers. It could be so much more polished and enjoyable to the listener by using microphones for each speaker. I recommend getting something like a Zoom F6 recorder, some mic’s and use the atomic function to ensure proper levels. Other than the technical audio recording aspect, I love the content.

  • Not a Subaru guy but…

This is a great podcast. It may center around Subaru as a generality, but it’s mostly good in depth conversations around more universal topics - tuning, set up, driving, rally, hill climbs, and time attack/time trials. Worth a listen for any grassroots motorsport junkie

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Atlas Tuning Software by NAMR
Q: How does Atlas handle emissions-related restrictions and safety?
Atlas does not support deleting emissions devices or defrauding emissions systems; it maintains a policy to avoid actions that would violate laws, such as disabling catalysts, and emphasizes safe, data-driven tuning guided by logs and community best practices.
Atlas Tuning Software by NAMR
Q: What is Atlas and what does NAMR do with it?
Atlas is a comprehensive tuning, flashing, and logging solution for FA-powered WRXs, designed to be a community-driven platform that is free for personal use, with plans to add commercial capabilities. NAMR exists to support Atlas as a platform and to foster the ecosystem around tuning and data sharing.
We talk Pikes Peak, Subaru, and the future of cars with Mike Kojima of MotoIQ
Q: Do EVs have a future where they outperform traditional internal combustion race cars?
EVs currently excel most in drag and instant torque, but for endurance and time-attack formats at altitude, the energy density, weight, and thermal management pose ongoing challenges. IC engines still offer higher power density and longer-term track viability, though battery technology and thermal management are rapidly evolving.
We talk Pikes Peak, Subaru, and the future of cars with Mike Kojima of MotoIQ
Q: What do you think are some advantages and disadvantages of the Subaru platform for racing?
The advantages are nuanced; the chassis characteristics and balance can be very favorable, but reliability and oiling have historically required significant engineering work and aftermarket care to mitigate issues. The FA24 is a step forward with better oil handling and a lower overall mass, but oiling and weight distribution remain critical challenges that need careful attention.
How to Build your own Hybrid Race Car - Sasha from Mountain Pass Performance
Q: What challenges do you face when converting standard vehicles to hybrids?
The limitation mainly comes from the software and control strategy needed to optimize the hybrid performance.
