  • Look forward to it every week for years !

I love Larry Mantle and most of the critics are terrific and insightful- with the exception of the recent addition of Beandrea July - I have tried to warm to her but I find her critiques lacking depth - she’s young though -the hope is she will develop

Please work on the sound levels. Often, the different guests go in and out, as though they aren’t aware they need to maintain a consistent distance from the mics. Constantly have to adjust the volume depending on who’s speaking.

Also, the most recent pod cast of reviews, wasn’t. No reviews this week?

  • A GEM

This is the only film criticism I listen to. A great breadth of critics, knowledgeable host and fascinating unsung movies. I get all my viewing ideas here and really enjoy listening to the show even if I’m uninterested in the films.

  • Pretty lame

The reviewers give overly favorable reviews in an effort to promote Hollywood movies and movie going. The women who’ve been on for years are the worst. I enjoy Tim Cogshell and the animation reviewer — he’s the toughest and the only one on the show deserving the title “critic”— as well as the skilled host Larry Mantel. Otherwise, it’s a wash.

  • Love the show but

Can we get the point of view from ONE straight guy? It would balance the reviews out a bit.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Feature: Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon exhibition at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures
Q: Before we close, let's talk about some of the other objects that you've got.
The conversation highlights notable pieces like the pink dress from Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend, as well as letters, annotated scripts, and other artifacts that illustrate Monroe's creative process and personal life.
Feature: Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon exhibition at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures
Q: For the collectors who have this memorabilia, are they typically loaning it out for exhibitions, or is this generally not available to be seen by the public?
Serrano notes that lenders vary; some items are loaned for this centennial exhibition while others are kept back for preservation, and a key lender from Palm Springs contributed items under careful stewardship.
Feature: Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon exhibition at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures
Q: So share with us about your appreciation of Monroe. What made you want to take on this project particularly?
Sophia Serrano explains Monroe's enduring cultural impact, the centennial celebration, and the compelling combination of intimate artifacts with the public fascination surrounding her career.
FilmWeek: ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu,’ ‘I Love Boosters,’ ‘Passenger’ and more!
Q: Christy, what do you think of Passenger?
The film starts with a road-trip hook but then shifts to a moody van-life drama where a mysterious figure attaches itself to the couple, relying on suspenseful camera work and mood rather than traditional jump scares; Melissa Leo's presence adds texture, though the film's logic around the possessed power remains unclear at times.
Feature: A couple of LA projectionists still working with film on the big screen
Q: What is actually the difference between watching something on film versus digital?
The difference is that film involves a physical, tangible medium where light interacts with the film stock in a unique way, creating an image that is not perfectly replicated across screenings, unlike digital copies which aim for uniformity across venues.
