Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 141 - Our Interview with Rex Pickett (Author of "Sideways")
Q: So what is it like to see your work translated to screen and character portrayals?
It's thrilling to see your novel made into a movie, though the characters are inevitably filtered through the director's and actors' interpretations.
Ep. 134 - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Rowling, 2003/ Yates, 2007)
Q: What are your personal journeys with the book and the movie? When did you first read the book and see the film?
Dan Porush recalls growing up with the films and then reading the books right before the sixth movie came out, allowing a direct comparison to the adaptation.
Ep. 116 - Poor Things (Gray, 1992/ Lanthimos, 2023)
Q: What do you think happened with Emma Stone's Oscar win?
Emma Stone's performance was truly Oscar worthy. It's incredible. I would have wanted Lily Gladstone to win, but because Emma Stone already has an Oscar, sometimes it's just an actor's time.
Ep. 116 - Poor Things (Gray, 1992/ Lanthimos, 2023)
Q: Laura, what's your relationship with Poor Things, book and movie?
This is a missed opportunity. I could have had a long journey with this book because when I was studying abroad in England in 2015, I had a Welsh teacher who taught me British Lit. I bought it in a little British bookshop that I could walk to from campus. I did not make that connection. I probably would get rid of it anyway, I guess. But you know, that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes.
