Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Wildlife filmmaker David Beach
Q: Right, where do you come down on this? Are you pro-hunting, anti-hunting?
The guest emphasizes presenting both sides—hunters and conservationists—and using a classical journalistic approach to illuminate how on-the-ground realities shape opinions, rather than pushing a single narrative.
Bill Blacker on the British gun trade
Q: How has the advice given to gun owners about guns and ammunition evolved, particularly with steel shot?
There is a push for better guidance at the point of sale and a need for established gunsmiths to advise on measurements and compatibility, emphasizing that barrels and components should be adapted to modern ammunition while maintaining safety and performance.
Bill Blacker on the British gun trade
Q: What opportunities exist for apprentices today and how is funding helping them?
The bursary program provides roughly five thousand pounds per year for four to five years to supported apprentices, helping cover wages, travel, and related costs, which is crucial as many trainees come from expensive areas and need financial backing to stay in the trade.
Game Fair deerstalkers
Q: Paul, what's your view on lead and copper? Are you fully in agreement with José on that one?
Copper has shown substantial development and practicality across rifles and calibers, with ongoing improvements in accuracy and future expansion into shotguns; this supports broader acceptance of venison in mainstream channels.
Game Fair deerstalkers
Q: But Paul, what does he need you for?
The role is broad: he shoots, stalks, breaks down, and cooks, so the collaboration adds the hands-on field and processing perspective to the project.
