  • VA Loans do not require PMI!

In the OBBA part 2 podcast the speaker - at around 41 minutes - stated that PMI is required for VA loans. No, it’s not. That remark made this podcast lose all credibility

  • Wish I'd known sooner

I've learned more in every podcast I've listened to so far than more previous Financial Planned (fired) and books I've read. I'm retired military and currently a federal employee if you're either or both I highly recommend.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 99: One Big Beautiful Bill Part 1
Q: Should individuals rush to do Roth conversions now?
Conversions remain valuable in many cases, especially when income dips or life events occur, but they must be evaluated against future brackets, Medicare surcharges, and the phase-out of deductions; opportunistic conversions are often optimal.
Episode 99: One Big Beautiful Bill Part 1
Q: What is the overall takeaway of the One Big Beautiful Bill for federal employees?
Brackets remaining stable and some deductions increasing can be favorable, but many provisions introduce complexity and potential phase-outs that require careful planning and professional projections.
Episode 111: Medicare in 2026: What Changed and What It Means for Federal Retirees
Q: What significant changes have you seen in Medicare over the past year, especially affecting federal employees?
Bryan notes increased calls from federal employees due to rising prices in Federal Blue plans and explains that policy shifts—like premiums, plan availability, and the Inflation Reduction Act's impact on drug coverage—have compressed choices. He emphasizes the importance of understanding drug-plan options, the role of Medicare call centers during enrollment, and the ongoing tension between cost control and benefit richness. He also highlights the growing prominence of Medicare Advantage alongside traditional supplements, while warning about underwriting hurdles if switching plans after choosing Advantage.
Episode 76: Estate Planning Across State Lines for Federal Employees
Q: What do y'all advise on how often should documents be reviewed?
Every two years, especially for mental health power of attorney, but ideally every four years or when significant life events occur.
Episode 83: Thrift Savings Plan Options: Super-Catch Up and Roth Conversions
Q: What are the disadvantages of the new in-plan Roth conversions?
They may require careful tax planning, and there are concerns about clients executing them without proper advice, leading to potential tax liabilities.
