Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ayreon interview - Arjen Lucassen (2020)
Q: How did you approach collaboration with star guests like Joe Satriani and Marty Friedman for the Ayreon project?
I wanted wild, distinctive solos and a blend of melodic and virtuosic styles. Satriani came through a direct route and delivered beyond expectations, while Friedman contributed a long, jazzy end part that balanced the overall piece; each guest was chosen to fit the character they portray in the story.
Ayreon interview - Arjen Lucassen (2020)
Q: Without giving away too much of the plot, what can you share about the Transitus story and its connection to the music?
Transitus is a romantic ghost story set in the 19th century about a forbidden interracial relationship. Daniel dies, Abby is suspected, and the angel of death allows a seven-day return to prove Abby's innocence; the project weaves the music tightly to the narrative, creating a cinematic arc rather than a traditional album.
Epica interview - Simone Simons on new album 'Aspiral', Vermillion, Metallica and more! (2025)
Q: What was it like for you to work with him?
It was an amazing experience; Ayreon is incredibly creative and precise, and he gave me the freedom to explore my voice, which pushed me to new heights and helped me bring more emotion and power into Epica's later material.
Nightwish interview - Floor Jansen (2020)
Q: What was your feeling going through the solo tour process?
Floor describes feeling scared at first, but ultimately excited as she realized she could bridge two worlds and create something personal yet professional.
Rag 'n' Bone Man interview (2016)
Q: First things first, Rory, how are you?
I'm very well, thank you. It's great to be here and talk about how the music came together and what inspires these songs.
