  • Tariffs report

Your not realizing the previous Brasil president was conservative and more on par with USA president trump at that time. Right or wrong. Now you went left in your last election and expect trump to still treat you like a brother. Your president isn’t pro American and has become close to china. That doesn’t work with trump or those that elected him. AIM to be more moderate and the tariffs will respond in kind. We love Brasil but not your government at this time.

  • Nice to have Brazilian news in English

Not much is available in English about current events in Brazil. As someone with family in Brazil, I like to keep up and appreciate this source of Brazilian news.

  • I've listened to this purchase for years as a casual listener. The quality of the podcast has seemed to diminish as they focus more on driving subscriptions. Several minutes of the most recent episode were drowned out by music louder than the person speaking.

  • Brazil - Love it or leave it.

As a gringo of over 10 years I enjoy this podcast. Really enjoyed the 4 part Brazil - Love it or leave it series. Would like to hear more on Brazil’s global political history and relationships with other nations. Always great to have politics in English even if I don’t agree with all the outlooks and views.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Time to investigate Brazil's Supreme Court justices? (preview)
Q: In this context, how likely is an investigation versus resignation for the implicated justices?
The host and guest suggest that investigations are possible but depend on political pressure and evidence; resignation is seen as possible but not guaranteed, with the emphasis on accountability and preserving the court's integrity.
An indigenous victory against Cargill on the Tapajós River (preview)
Q: How do you assess the government's stance and what do you expect going forward now the decree has been revoked?
Caipirinho suggests that the government's retreat is partially due to electoral calculations, but emphasizes it fundamentally reflects a legal obligation to consult indigenous communities in development processes.
How the Mercosur-EU deal impacts Brazilian firms beyond exports (preview)
Q: What explains this gap, why the Brazilian economy is so shut off from the rest of the world, and how important will the Mercosur-EU agreement be in driving the change in this scenario?
The Brazilian economy's isolation can be attributed to decades of import substitution policies that protected local industries at the cost of integration with global trade. The Mercosur-EU agreement is seen as a turning point that could drive significant changes in this landscape.
What happened to Brazil-Venezuela relations? (preview)
Q: What did Brazil represent for Venezuelan foreign policy at that time?
Brazil represented an important bridge for Venezuela to access international markets, share technology, and foster legitimacy through political dialogue due to their aligned political interests.
What happened to Brazil-Venezuela relations? (preview)
Q: What kind of missions would a Brazilian diplomat arrive in Caracas at the embassy in 2007 during Lula's second term?
A Brazilian diplomat's missions in Caracas during this period were focused on encouraging South American integration and fostering bilateral relations, especially through investment and political dialogue.
