Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Danielle Malik: UX Leader's unexpected and gratifying path into housing solutions.
Q: What advice does she have for listeners considering a career change?
Think about opportunities rather than chasing a single passion; test ideas like lean UX in life decisions, view transitions as experiments, and be open to roles that may combine skills in unexpected ways.
Tina Santiago-Keenan: Leaving tech, creating immersive experiences for people IRL
Q: How did you handle the challenges of expansion, permits, and safety early on?
They encountered building-permit and fire-suppression challenges; when necessary they improvised by renting a local basement to complete a quick build and ensure the show could go on, then moved everything to a permanent space later while learning from the experience.
Tina Santiago-Keenan: Leaving tech, creating immersive experiences for people IRL
Q: What was your life like 10-11 years ago before this started?
Tina studied psychology, moved into film, did an MBA in Europe, then relocated to San Francisco where she connected with people in the design world, gradually finding a path into UX and product design while maintaining an instinct for hands-on experimentation and learning.
Tina Santiago-Keenan: Leaving tech, creating immersive experiences for people IRL
Q: Could you explain what Secret City is today and what you do there?
Secret City is a creative design and production studio that develops immersive location-based experiences, including writing, developing, designing, producing, marketing, and operating them in real spaces such as Castle Loma in Toronto. The work blends escape-room-like puzzle design with immersive theater and live storytelling.
