  • No ego

If you want to listen and learn about Porsche from someone who leaves their ego at the door, 11 after 9 is for you. Derek never tries to convince you he knows the only answer to Porsche happiness or that his decisions would be right for you. It's not all GT3, turbo, or air-cooled either. He shows love for the Carraras and base boxsters too. Highly recommend his YouTube channel as well.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The 987.1 Porsche Cayman Drives Like a 993 — For 1/5 the Price
Q: What would be your advice for someone considering a Cayman or Boxster in that era—year and configuration and must-have options?
Focus on base-spec cars with essential options like PASM, sports seats, and a well-documented maintenance history; assess the VIN/build to understand the car's specific configuration, and prioritize pre-PPI checks while considering the long-term ownership cost and enjoyment of the base model.
The Most Reliable Porsche You Aren’t Buying
Q: From your experience, are Porsche maintenance costs actually higher than other high-end brands like BMW or Mercedes over the long term?
Angelo counters that maintenance costs are not inherently higher when viewed per ownership period, arguing that proper routine maintenance and careful service can keep costs reasonable; he emphasizes that comprehensive maintenance goes beyond oil changes and influences longevity.
The Most Reliable Porsche You Aren’t Buying
Q: What is the most common mod that actually hurts longevity, and is there a quick way to diagnose a tune's impact on a car?
Angelo explains that dealer mechanics see more issues from owner-installed modifications than the modifications themselves, with tunes often hidden behind warranty paperwork; diagnostic signs include readiness codes and affected emissions data, plus a data log timestamp in modern DMEs.
The Most Reliable Porsche You Aren’t Buying
Q: First listener question, Angelo, daily driver myth, which modern Porsche is actually the most reliable for someone putting on 10,000 plus miles a year?
Angelo notes the Cayman as a prime daily driver due to reliability and cost of ownership, while acknowledging the broader question involves generation and model choice, balancing cost, maintenance, and driving dynamics.
Bore Scoring Is A Myth? Blackstone Labs Porsche Data Revealed!
Q: How should owners interpret a technically bad oil report for a car that's already on the road?
Interpretation hinges on trends. A single “bad” reading isn't the end; if subsequent samples show improvement, the issue may be situational. Oil analysis is about tracking progression over time to decide whether to pull the trigger on maintenance, not panic based on one snapshot.
