  • Host Cant Focus

The host just randomly jumps from question to question often reverting back to talking about himself . Felt like I was in the basement of two 24-year-old kids who played video games and eat Ramen noodle all day and find inspiration in Beavis and Butthead

  • Great Guests and Topics!

A great podcast. Brings a casual “Joe Rogan” feel to what’s usually an overproduced and stiff genre (defense/policy). Highly recommend to anyone interested in defense or tech!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Turning Water Into Hydrogen for Military Drones & Backup Power | Rick Harlow
Q: What are the strongest use-cases you're pursuing with the military and defense partners?
Key use-cases include off-grid drone fueling, ship-to-shore power and backup power for forward operating bases, and the potential to replace diesel generators with reliable, silent, hydrogen-backed energy, enabling prolonged operations in contested areas.
Turning Water Into Hydrogen for Military Drones & Backup Power | Rick Harlow
Q: How does your system generate hydrogen on-site, and what are the practical outputs for drones and military use?
We extract water from the air, filter and electrolyze it to separate hydrogen from oxygen, store the hydrogen gas, and then feed it into fuel cells or direct dispensing for drones. A typical drone can fly 24-30 hours on about 200 grams of hydrogen, with energy storage and auxiliary power provided by the same on-site system.
How Defense Tech Investors Evaluate Startups | Jocelyn Kinsey (DFJ Growth)
Q: How do you evaluate a defense startup's potential to become a 'hit'?
We assess the team's vision and ability to navigate shifting markets, the size and trajectory of the total addressable market, and the product's ability to achieve a price point that enables scalable, differentiated impact in a complex, often non-recurring revenue environment.
How Defense Tech Investors Evaluate Startups | Jocelyn Kinsey (DFJ Growth)
Q: What is your approach to fund economics and return expectations for a growth fund in defense?
We maintain a venture-like upside mindset, aiming for a few investments that can return venture-level returns; we emphasize long-term value creation through successful exits or scale, with a portfolio strategy of 5-7 investments per year to maintain focus and depth.
Former Army Ranger on Drone Warfare, Ukraine, and The Future of War | James Lechner
Q: Why did you join the military?
He was always interested in military service from a young age, felt a calling, and pursued military education and Ranger training, despite limited family military background, ultimately choosing a path that led to elite unit service and later training allies.
